N/ASMA Negeri 1 Tegal, abbreviated as SMAN 1 Tegal, is the best high school in Tegal City, Central Java, Indonesia. Similar to high schools in general in Indonesia, the school education period at SMAN 1 Tegal is taken over three academic years, starting from Class X to Class XII. SMA Negeri 1 Tegal is the oldest high school in the city of Tegal. It could be said that SMA N 1 Tegal was the pioneer of the establishment of SMA in Tegal City.The story of the founding of this school began around the 1950s. The people of Tegal City do not have a single Senior High School (SLTA), aka SMA. School education in Tegal City is very small and not easy to achieve. Finally, the community began to fight for the establishment of a high school in Tegal City. This effort was successful after the Decree of the Ministry of Education and Culture No.26/SK/8.III dated 1 August 1958 was issued, followed by the appointment of Mr. Raden Nyoewono Tjokrosoebroto, B.A. as the first director. SMA N 1 Tegal it self was inaugurated by Mr. Sewojo on November 3 1958 as a SMA inspection at the Ministry of P and K.
