About Us
Center for Detention Studies actively conducts research and dialogue on the protection of human rights for detainees and prisoners. It has been operating since 2009 and is headquartered in Central Jakarta, Indonesia.

Center for Detention Studies aims to become a leading research center in addressing social issues to achieve restorative justice. Its mission includes advocating for correctional policy changes oriented towards restorative justice, producing community-based academic research, and conducting regular visits to prisons and detention centers. This vision and mission reflect the Center for Detention Studies' commitment to recognizing that detainees and prisoners still have human rights.

Center for Detention Studies has research programs focused on the development and drafting of regulations, technical guidance, and assessment instruments, as well as direct research in correctional institutions. The research covers themes such as the fulfillment of the rights of detainees and inmates in correctional facilities, studies on the cost of living standards for prisoners, special prisons for high-risk inmates, management of children and inmates involved in terrorism, and more. Additionally, there are advocacy programs to actively participate in improving and resolving the implementation of the correctional system and monitoring programs to ensure that the established rights and obligations are properly upheld. These programs have resulted in documenting cases of terrorism and crime in Indonesia and increased attention to prisoners' rights in many correctional facilities.

To date, Center for Detention Studies continues to produce research reports and observations such as the "Research Report on the Management of Children and Inmates in Terrorism Cases in Indonesia: Scoping Study," published on June 19, 2023, and the "Policy Brief on the Impact Analysis of Narcotics Circulation in Indonesian Prisons/Detention Centers on the Correctional System and National Resilience," released in 2022. Additionally, the Center has started participating in YouTube videos, various official news media, and seminars.
